Woodworm treatment in North Shields and North Tyneside

Identifying active infestation, treatment programmes, timber decay and structural protection.

What it is

Understanding woodworm treatment

Woodworm is the larvae of wood boring beetles feeding inside timber. Many holes are historic and need nothing. The important question is whether the infestation is active, so we check for fresh bore dust and clean edged holes before recommending any treatment programme. Decayed timber from wet or dry rot is dealt with at the same time.

  • Spraying timber preservative treatment onto roof joists in a loft
  • Floorboards lifted to inspect the joists below for woodworm and decay

How it works

Confirm it is active before treating

Many old flight holes need nothing at all, so the first job is establishing what is actually live.

  1. 01

    Timber inspection

Floors, joists, roof timbers and stairs are inspected for fresh bore dust and clean edged holes that show active infestation.

  2. 02

    Assessment and advice

We tell you honestly whether the infestation is active or historic, and check for any wet or dry rot alongside it.

  3. 03

    Targeted treatment

Affected timber is treated with an insecticidal programme, and any rot is traced and treated at the same time.

  4. 04

    Repair where needed

Timber that has lost structural strength is replaced, and you get advice on the damp conditions that attract the problem.
